The great thing about a toy like bean bags is that they are open eded and will be used for years and years to come as they develop with your child.

They can also be adapted in so many different ways. eg

  • Add numbers to introduce counting and numbers into play

  • Colour sorting

  • Stacking

  • Can be played with indoor and out

Benefits:

Develop their gross motor skills, increase balance and enhance directionality, which is important for reading skills. Other benefits include: Upper body strengthening (arms, legs, and hands) core strengthening and physical endurance, bilateral coordination, tactile, Kinesthetic, andVestibular stimulation, crossing midline skills and finally eye-hand coordination

Ways to Play:

Sensory play ie just feeling (at a young age) a great one to add to sensory baskets.

For older more advanced children activities to develop gross motor skills include balancing on their head, using them as stepping stones, (we love the floor in lave) jumping games, and various types of throwing games (ie throwing into a basket, hoop, or even marking out shapes on the floor with masking tape) and finally catching games.
